A new series on the Over & Back Classic NBA Podcast: we are going to talk about the players who can truly call themselves the best on a championship team.

We’ll look at each and every champion in NBA, ABA, BAA and NBL history and determine who the best player on each of those teams are.

Some teams won’t have a debate, we all know who that guy is but there are a ton of teams with some real cases to be made for multiple players. We’ll explore all of that in this series.

This is a big topic so we’re doing two shows — Part 1 goes up through the 1974 season!

Topics and debates on this show include:

  • 1952 Minneapolis Lakers – George Mikan or Vern Mikkelson?
  • 1956 Philadelphia Warriors – Neil Johnston or Paul Arizin?
  • 1958 St. Louis Hawks – Bob Pettit or Cliff Hagan?
  • The case for Sam Jones on the 1964, 1965 and 1966 Boston Celtics
  • Willis Reed or Walt Frazier for the 1970 New York Knicks
  • 1972 Los Angeles Lakers – Jerry West or Wilt Chamberlain?
  • 1974 Boston Celtics – John Havlicek or Dave Cowens?
  • & so much more!

Who was the best player on every NBA Championship team through 1974?
