Demarkcus Bowman transfer rumors: 3 destinations for former 5-star RB
By John Buhler
Former five-star running back Demarkcus Bowman has entered the transfer portal once again.
Demarkcus Bowman finds himself in the transfer portal again, as the former five-star running back is leaving the Florida Gators program.
Bowman initially committed to Clemson in December 2019 before officially enrolling in August 2020. He lasted less than two months at Clemson before transferring to Florida to be closer to home in October of that year. With him having already exhausted his one free transfer, Bowman will have to sit out the entire 2022 college season before suiting up for his third team of note.
With Bowman back in the portal, what teams could be in the mix to land the former five-star?
Demarkcus Bowman: 3 transfer destinations for former 5-star running back
Jeff Scott was his primary recruiter when he first committed to Clemson
When Bowman initially committed to Clemson, former Tigers offensive coordinator Jeff Scott was serving as his primary recruiter. It should be noted his secondary was Tony Elliott, who is now calling the shots at Virginia. While the Hoos are certainly a candidate for Bowman, Tampa is not that far from Lakeland. South Florida may not be Power Five, but there is an opportunity to play.
Orlando is close to home and former Auburn head coach Gus Malzhan leads UCF
While UCF was not among the teams heavily recruiting Bowman the first time around, things have certainly changed for the Orlando program. They are now led by former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn and are about to be Power Five. Orlando is very close to Lakeland, but UCF having to play all of its road games very far away from Florida once the Knights join the Big 12 could be an issue.
Mario Cristobal will surely have a use for the former 5-star in The U’s backfield
Assuming Bowman has patience this time, the best spot for him has to be at Miami. Former Hurricanes offensive lineman Mario Cristobal was summoned from Eugene to make The U The U again. Cristobal is going to make Miami a national power again. With a former five-star chomping at the bit to play in 2023, this could be one heck of a pickup for the Canes if they land Bowman.
Other teams will be in play for Bowman, but the Floridian schools are probably the best bet now.
