Chiefs: 1 player from each division rival fans would love to steal
By John Buhler
When healthy, there are few, if any, defensive backs quite like Derwin James
We have arrived at the Los Angeles Chargers. That means we are taking a defensive back off their roster and putting him onto the Chiefs. Derwin James is going to Kansas City. While taking Davante Adams off the Raiders to solve their wide receiver issues is not controversial, this is why James is bolting from the Bolts and Bradley Chubb bucking the Broncos is the right series of moves here.
If we were to flip it around, Justin Simmons would be leaving Denver and either Joey Bosa or newcomer Khalil Mack would no longer play for the Chargers. What this really comes down to is who can be the closest approximation of what Tyrann Mathieu provided Kansas City. When healthy, James is pretty much in a category of his own at safety, from Florida State up until now.
The other big factor in Chubb and James joining the Chiefs defense is they still have a chip on their shoulders, something to prove. Elite talents coming out of the ACC no doubt, but there is always the injury concerns in the back of their mind. Since the Chiefs already have a loaded roster otherwise, stealing Chubb and James away from the Broncos and Chargers are worth the risks.
By adding Adams, Chubb and James to the Chiefs’ roster, they would so win the Lombardi Trophy.
