‘Angry’ Freddie Freeman drops agency in clear response to leaving Braves
By John Buhler
Freddie Freeman has parted ways with his representation after the Atlanta Braves fiasco.
It is simply and unequivocally undeniable at this point that Freddie Freeman made a GOB Bluth huge mistake by leaving the Atlanta Braves for the Los Angeles Dodgers in his high-profile free agency.
While he should have great individual and team success in Los Angeles, Freeman’s return to Atlanta removed all doubt; he never wanted to leave. In the days that have followed since his first trip back to Braves Country, Freeman is reportedly leaving Excel and will be self-represented for the time being. It was nothing short of a complete and total botch job for him to ever leave Atlanta.
ESPN’s Buster Olney broke the not-so-shocking news that “Freddie Freeman, who has told friends he’s angry with how his free-agent negotiations played out, is changing his representation, away from Excel.”
His representation played hardball and got burnt like toast, as Atlanta opted to trade for Lilburn native and former Parkview star Matt Olson to take his spot over at first base for the next nine years.
It sucks that this is what transpired, but it never, ever had to be like this. That is such a shame…

Admittedly, this is a tad personal for me. Freddie Freeman is a day younger than me. I grew up in Braves Country, this is my team and I was a homeless man’s equivalent to him in my playing days. S****y Freeman, if you will. He had the chance to be the millennial version of Chipper Jones and he freaking blew it. Chipper told him he was blowing it while it was happening. Now, we have tears…
I think the saddest part in all of this is he trusted the wrong people. His inner circle did not give a damn about what he wanted to do, and it shows. All the proof you would ever need to have was on display this past weekend that included a pair of nationally televised games on FOX and ESPN. It absolutely killed him to be sitting in the visitor’s dugout at Truist Park. I almost feel bad for him…
Ultimately, this is the price you pay when you turn heel when you had been the Braves’ white knight for the better part of your adult life. Oh, he will be fine … eventually. The Dodgers will probably win a World Series with him manning first base, possibly this year. But no doubt about it, his heart is broken. Again, it never had to be this way. Everybody needs to move on, but it is so sad.
Maybe Freeman can put on the Braves jersey one more time before he ultimately calls it a career?
