NBA free agency officially opens at 6 p.m. ET Thursday, with teams and players officially cleared to begin negotiating and agreeing on deals. However, as we all know, plenty of negotiation and maneuvering is already taking place during this supposed moratorium and things will begin being announced quickly.

Many of the big pieces have already come off the board — Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook exercised their player options for one more year with the Nets and Lakers, respectively. James Harden opted out but is working on a multi-year extension with the 76ers. Zach LaVine, the crown jewel of the free-agent class, is expected to quickly to return to the Bulls on a max deal. The Knicks have set themselves up to land Jalen Brunson and Bradley Beal opted out but seems likely to return to the Wizards on a five-year max.

But there are plenty of big names who will be on the market and several trade scenarios which could be in play.

With so much news coming in such a short period of time, it can be difficult to keep track of everything. That’s where we come in. Bradley Beal new contract: All-Star returns to Wizards on a max contract

While the frenzy of NBA free agency was certainly a blitz, most of the reported deals to rumble through were predictable.

One, however, was a little surprising.

Amid rumors that he’d be taking his talents elsewhere in free agency, All-Star guard Bradley Beal ended up staying with the Washington Wizards. Some might scratch their heads at the move given how Beal would have been perhaps the most sought-after free agent on the market, but the Wizards gave him $251 million reasons to stay.

Milwaukee Bucks re-sign two key pieces back

Both Bobby Portis and Wesley Matthews Jr are returning to the Milwaukee Bucks. Portis was a flight risk this offseason, as the last few seasons he put together as a key piece of the Bucks championship lineup is the type of situation players usually cash out on.

Not Portis.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Portis is returning to the Bucks on a four-year, $49 million deal. Not to be lost in the shuffle, Wesley Matthews inked a one-year deal to return to Milwaukee meaning the Bucks have the pieces to run things back next year in an Eastern Conference that is going to look a lot different than it did a year ago.

Tyus Jones gets $30M deal to remain with Memphis Grizzlies

A key piece of the Memphis Grizzlies’ run through the playoffs, Tyus Jones is getting paid. The sharp-shooting guard is getting a whopping $30 million over the next two seasons to remain in Memphis.
