The Chicago White Sox are at a crossroads for their 2022 season. There are three players that might not be with the team on the other side.

The Chicago White Sox have some work to do if they are going to make the playoffs in 2022. They are 38-40 but their run differential suggests that they should be even further back (35-43) as the team nears the halfway point of the 2022 season.

Considering that they are only four games back in the AL Wild Card race, the White Sox still could be buyers at the trade deadline. Especially if they are, there are three players that won’t be on the roster after the August 2 trade deadline.

1) Relief pitcher Matt Foster

Like most teams, the White Sox will likely be in the market for some bullpen help. Entering Tuesday, they have a 4.21 ERA, which is 21st in baseball so if they address it, they will have to let some reliever go (to another team or to the minors). That reliever will likely be Matt Foster.

Matt Foster has two minor league options and only one of two pitchers in the White Sox bullpen that has a minor league option. In 34 games this year (all at the MLB level), Foster has a 4.78 ERA (82 ERA+).

He also had a particularly bad stretch in June. Since June 3, Foster has appeared in 11 games and he has an ERA of 11.00 in that span. Since then, his ERA has more than doubled from 2.35 to 4.78. Batters are hitting .308/.357/.590 in that span as well.
