Cowboys: Micah Parsons already getting elite respect
The preseason polls are starting to arrive, and Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is already getting the love he deserves.
Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is one of the best linebackers in the NFL, and the most recent ESPN poll agrees with that statement.
After asking executives, players and coaches who the best off-ball linebackers in the NFL were, Parsons sits in the No.2 spot behind Darius Leonard.
That ranking gives him the credit he deserves because he is truly an elite player.
While the list includes some of the best linebackers in the league, seeing Parsons that high should excite Cowboys fans. Despite heading into his second year in the NFL, those around him believe he is one of the best.
Micah Parsons got respect on the latest ESPN linebacker poll.
At 6-3 and 245 pounds, Parsons is quick for his size, as he proved by racing at the David Mulgheta’s Pro Week. Parsons was as fast as most of the guys there, which tells you how talented that young man is.
He is also a technically sound linebacker, which is likely why he sits so high on this poll. At the same time, he is naturally gifted and has a certain twitch that frustrates offenses.
Last season as a rookie, Parsons recorded 84 tackles, including 59 solo ones. He tallied 13 sacks and forced three fumbles as well. Those stats are incredible for a rookie, so heading into year two should spell a lot of success for him.
Those stats earned him Defensive Rookie of the Year, and he had a strong argument for Defensive Player of the Year, but it’s only fitting that he sits where he does on this poll.
If he stays healthy, he deserves to see that No.2 ranking, if not go higher as the season progresses.
Parsons is a stud, and the Cowboys needed someone like him on their roster to bring that spark. He immediately brought the spark and proved his worth, which players have to in today’s league.
It’s great to see a young talent like Parsons get respect from his peers because it isn’t given out — it’s earned.
