Rafael Devers pulled from Yankees-Red Sox with apparent injury

Boston Red Sox third baseman Rafael Devers was pulled from the team’s July 8 game against the New York Yankees with an apparent injury.
Rafael Devers was having a great July 8. Just as the Boston Red Sox’s game against the New York Yankees began, Devers was voted as the starting third baseman for the American League All-Star team. The next thing he could do was lead the team to victory.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Devers struck out swinging when facing Yankees starter Nelson Cortes. But following the strikeout, he was visited by Red Sox manager Alex Cora and a team trainer. He was replaced at third base by Christian Arroyo to start the fifth inning.
Looks like Devers might be out of the game. Cora and a trainer visited him in the dugout after he winced following that strikeout. He sat out earlier this week with back/hamstring tightness.

Rafael Devers pulled from Red Sox-Yankees game due to injury
Devers winced after the strikeout and grabbed at his lower back. On the NESN broadcast, it was revealed that the third baseman was dealing with lower back pain, which is why he was pulled from the game.
Earlier in the week, Devers missed two games due to back and hamstring tightness.
In the game, Devers went 0-for-3 at the plate, where he struck out two times and left four runners on base.
Through 80 games this season, Devers recorded a .327 batting average, a .384 on-base percentage, a .593 slugging percentage, 19 home runs, 51 RBI, 59 runs scored, and 106 hits.
Devers’ status will be worth monitoring, especially to see if the injury will force him to spend a stint on the injured list. Cora’s postgame press conference will be a must-listen for Red Sox fans wondering what exactly is going on with Devers.
