Ronald Acuña Jr. and Mike Trout proved why they were voted MLB All-Star Game starters with home runs on July 8.

After much anticipation, the starters for the American and National League teams in the 2022 MLB All-Star Game were officially revealed. Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. had already been confirmed for the game, as he received the most votes out of any NL players. One of the players who was voted in on the AL-side was Los Angeles Angels star outfielder Mike Trout.

Almost immediately after being named starters for the All-Star Game, both Acuña and Trout hit home runs early on in their respective games.

In the top of the third inning in Los Angeles’ game against the Baltimore Orioles, Trout sent an 87.3-mph slider thrown by Tyler Wells over the left-field wall at Camden Yards that just squeezed fair. That allowed Max Stassi and Jonathan Villar to score, giving the Angels an early 3-0 lead.

As for Acuña, he had a great start to Atlanta’s game against the rival Washington Nationals. Michael Harris II already hit a two-run double to extend the team’s lead to 3-0. With Harris and Orlando Arcia on base, Acuña hit a no-doubt home run to deep left field to extend Atlanta’s lead to 6-0.

Joining Acuña in the outfield for the NL All-Star team are Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers and Joc Pederson of the San Francisco Giants.

Meanwhile, Trout will be manning centerfield alongside New York Yankees sluggers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton.

The MLB All-Star Game takes place on Tuesday, July 19 from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif.
