Second-year Nets guard Cam Thomas tore it up in the Summer League then seemed to call the authority of Brooklyn head coach Steve Nash into question.

As if the Nets didn’t have a whole swimming pool full of bad offseason PR with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant seeking trades, head coach Steve Nash is now dealing the eye rolling of Cam Thomas.

Thomas was coming off an excellent Summer League outing on Sunday when a reporter asked him about Nash encouraging him to pass more.

His response became the eye roll heard ’round the NBA.

Thomas didn’t say anything particularly wrong, but the exchange could certainly be interpreted as dismissive of the coaching he’s receiving in Brooklyn.

He had 26 points and seven assists against the 76ers on Sunday, so clearly his passing was on point in that game. That’s after putting up 31 points and just two assists against the Bucks on Friday.

The question is whether that eye roll was in response to the narrative that he doesn’t pass enough or to the idea that Nash told him to pass more. Only Thomas can say for sure. The problem is that the video speaks for itself. It’s far from a good look, regardless of the meaning behind it.

Brooklyn selected Thomas late in the first round of the 2021 NBA Draft. He averaged 8.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.2 assists while averaging 17.6 minutes per game as a rookie. It’ll be interesting to see how his relationship with Nash withstands this one.
