2. Atlanta Hawks trade for Myles Turner

The Hawks are in a different position from Memphis in that they do not have a starting-caliber big man that is on an expiring contract. Both Clint Capela and John Collins are under contract until at least 2025, and Collins has a deal that includes a player option for 2025-26. However, what Atlanta does have is a need for a big who perhaps fits their long-term vision better now that Dejounte Murray seems to have joined Trae Young as a cornerstone piece of the franchise’s future.

A trade could go in two different directions, however. Like Adams before, a Capela deal would perhaps net the Pacers an asset like a draft pick (would have to be a later first, as in 2029, after Atlanta’s trade with the Spurs, or more realistically a couple of second-round picks) since even though Capela is technically a better player than Adams he is not an expiring deal. The Pacers would be losing some future flexibility, although they’d be gaining an elite screener and rebounder similar to Adams that is a bit younger at 27 years old.

On the other hand, with the rumors that John Collins could potentially be had in a trade as well, Indiana could see a chance to get that foundational big to play alongside Tyrese Haliburton. It may cost the Pacers Chris Duarte and/or Buddy Hield in addition to Turner, depending on how big the trade got, as well as multiple draft picks. Collins is that good — he can score the ball at three levels and has a game that can grow alongside Haliburton. He’s younger than Capela and has more layers to his skill set.

The Hawks have come out and stated that they’re not trading anyone. Capela is tight to Young personally, and Collins may command a steeper price than Indy is willing to pay entering this stage. But because two theoretical options exist instead of one, they make this list.
