Georgia football legacy Justice Haynes spurns Dawgs to commit to Alabama football program.

Just when Kirby Smart thought he was going to land the son of a Georgia football legend, Justice Haynes turned heel and stepped on the Dawgs’ face with a Hobnail Boot to commit to Alabama.

Not to say justice has been served here, but Haynes is the son of legendary Georgia fullback Verron Haynes. His touchdown grab to shock Tennessee in 2001 was the first signature victory of the Mark Richt era in Athens. In the 20-plus years since he caught the red-zone pass from David Greene, it remains one of the best plays in Georgia football history. At least Tennessee still loses…

As it is with anything these days, nothing is official until Hayes Fawcett tweets out his graphic.

Alabama Hobnail Boots Dawgs to land Justice Haynes’ 4-star RB commitment

According to the 247Sports Composite, Haynes is the No. 3 player in Georgia, the No. 4 running back in the country and the No. 50 overall prospect in the 2023 cycle. The Buford standout had 36 official offers, choosing the Crimson Tide over Florida, Georgia and Ohio State. Running backs coach Robert Gillespie served as his primary recruiter. What a huge pickup for the Crimson Tide!

Admittedly, you cannot go wrong with either Alabama or Georgia if you are a star running back. Both SEC juggernauts routinely send players to the NFL out of that position group. For Haynes, culture was key in his decision to pick the Crimson Tide. With players like Derrick Henry, Najee Harris and Mark Ingram Jr. tearing it up in the NFL, it makes all the sense in the world to go there.

Ultimately, Haynes’ commitment to Alabama should feel like a gut punch to Georgia. To lose a top-50 player in the country to a bitter rival that is not only in-state, but the son of a football hero for the program, man, that is brutal, Dawg! As far as him picking a different shade of red to don, at least Haynes will never lose a college game to Tennessee. The Hayneses will have to relish in that.

Good job by Saban to step on Smart’s face with a Hobnail Boot to be able to throw it to Haynes.
