Boston Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale is beyond frustrated by his latest freak injury so soon after returning from the injured list.

Chris Sale has spent most of the 2022 season on the injured list. He’s gearing up for another lengthy stay after suffering yet another injury.

During Sunday’s bout between the Red Sox and Yankees, the pitcher had to come off the mound in the first inning after being struck in the hand by a line drive.

Sale’s pinky took the brunt of the force and he was diagnosed with a fracture. Boston put him on the 15-day IL but it’s likely he’ll stay out considerably longer than that. A timeline for his return is unknown.

Frustration boiled over for Sale when he appeared the media.

“It’s par for the course. Think about it. Think about my timeline. It has just been s*** after s*** after s***. Just more shit to deal with,” Sale said per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com.

The pitcher will see a specialist sometime in the next day, per Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe. Then the team will have a better idea of how long he will be out. Sale predicted four to six weeks, which feels like an absolute best-case scenario.

Sale wasn’t kidding about his string of bad injury luck. He was making his second start of the season on Sunday. He missed the first half of the season because of a stress fracture on his rib, which he suffered in February. He sat out the entire 2020 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery. His rehab from that surgery delayed his return in 2021, liming him to just nine regular season starts.

Despite the obvious irritation, he also had sensible approach to the latest setback.

“Two things I know for a fact right now. I have a lot of love in my corner, a lot of people who care about me and want me to succeed. And somebody somewhere is having a worse day than I am right now. And that’s a fact,” Sale said, per a tweet from Cotillo.
