New LSU football head coach Brian Kelly is 100 percent a southern accent expert.

Nobody is safe at SEC Media Days, not even Brian Kelly and his LSU football family.

He is just getting started in Baton Rouge, but so are the jokes about Kelly’s newly acquired southern accent. Kelly might be from Massachusetts and may have spent his entire coaching career in the midwest, but his pandering ways got him in trouble with those fine folks who talk a lil different than y’all faster than you can say, “how you?” The SEC Network did a masterful troll job.

Kelly was already a great football coach, but who knew he was a southern accent expert as well?

LSU football: Brian Kelly trolled by SEC Network on southern accent expertise

The best way to talk in a southern accent is to not emulate Tennessee Williams or pretend you hail from 19th century Charleston. It is all about talking at a slightly slower pace, slurring a few words on occasion and adding a syllable or two as you see fit. Most importantly, you cannot fake it, as it is a lifestyle. From banana pudding to a poor boy sandwich, Kelly might have some work to do…

While it serves any football player worth his weight in salt to have grit, you simply do not eat a single grit. You are allowed to mix in cheese there and put some shrimp on top of it, but sugar ain’t the way to go, breaux. Though Kelly can connect with many Louisianans through football and catholicism, he must immerse himself in the culture first. He must learn to walk before he can run.

He may not hail from the bayou or make a mean crawfish etouffee, but the cure to everything in the world of sports is really simple: Winning. Everybody loves winning, and Kelly has won everywhere he has been. LSU fans are hoping Kelly can make Death Valley the hardest stadium to play in college football once again here shortly. For now, he should let his coaching do the talking.

If the humidity does not drive you crazy, the folks who call into The Paul Finebaum Show sure will.
