Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman revealed who he and his son Charlie pick to win the 2022 Home Run Derby.

While the MLB All-Star Game is an event that baseball fans look forward to, the night prior is arguably the most exciting due to the Home Run Derby. New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso looks to defend his title once again, but has seven tough challengers to contend with. That has baseball media wondering — who will win the 2022 event?

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was asked for who he thinks will win the Home Run Derby when meeting with the media on the day of the event. Freeman said that it is hard to pick against Alonso. But, Freeman revealed that his son Charlie is picking Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr.

Freddie Freeman picks Pete Alonso to win Home Run Derby, but Charlie Freeman picks Ronald Acuña Jr.

It is ironic that the Freeman’s are split between Alonso and Acuña, because those two stars are set to compete in the first round of the Derby. Talk about suspense.

Whoever wins between Alonso and Acuna will have to face the winner of the Corey Seager vs. Julio Rodriguez matchup. The winner of the semifinals matchup will move onto the finals to take on one of Kyle Schwarber, Juan Soto, Jose Ramirez, or Albert Pujols.

Alonso has the chance to make history, as he can become the second player to ever win the Home Run Derby three times. The only player to do so was Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. But, Griffey never won the Derby three years in a row. Alonso has the chance to do so.

The Mets star won the previous two Derby events, which was in 2019 and 2021. The 2020 All-Star Game was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This is Acuña’s second Home Run Derby appearance. He competed in 2019 and made it to the second-round. He was eliminated by, you guessed it, Alonso, who defeated the Braves star 20 home runs to 19.
