Former President Donald Trump has entered the LIV Golf debate and he’s urging those who have the opportunity to ‘Take the money now’.

LIV Golf will head to New Jersey next week for the league’s next stop at Trump National Golf Club Bedminster. Former President Donald Trump took to his social media platform, Truth Social, on Monday to share his thoughts on the PGA’s newest competitor.

In his post, Trump wrote, “All of those golfers that remain ‘loyal’ to the very disloyal PGA, in all of its different forms, will pay a big price when the inevitable MERGER with LIV comes.”

LIV Golf has been a thorn in the side of the PGA Tour since its inception. The upstart tour has grabbed more than just the headlines, it’s grabbed some of golf’s biggest names in the process.

Led by its CEO Greg Norman, LIV Golf has secured the services of former major champions Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Sergio Garcia, and Louis Oosthuizen just to name a few. There are also rumors swirling that British Open champion Cameron Smith may be the next to defect.

“If you don’t take the money now, you will get nothing after the merger takes place, and only say how smart the original signees were,” he wrote.

As it stands right now, the idea of a merger between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf seems outrageous. However, if several other golfers continue to spurn the tour for the new upstart league, we could see the tone change.

There is already a request on the part of LIV Golf to be included in the World Golf Rankings. Several European players have likely forfeited the ability to play in next year’s Ryder Cup, including Henrik Stenson who will no longer be able to captain Team Europe.

There’s also the matter of the major championships. Both the US Open and the Open Championship allowed those golfers who joined LIV to participate in the final two majors of the year. But what about next year’s Masters Tournament?

Former President Donald Trump has made his opinion known; something he rarely shies away from. LIV Golf will also play its final tournament of the season at Trump National Golf Club Doral.
