Tony Khan releases what is clearly the pettiest and funniest wrestling tweet of 2022 in response to Vince McMahon’s retirement.

AEW’s CEO Tony Khan is no stranger to being extremely petty online, trolling anyone who he perceives as against him.

However, TK really stepped up his pettiness and comedic timing when he responded to the news that Vince McMahon was retiring and fully removing himself as CEO and head of creative for WWE.

This tweet, while funny and well timed, is not actually accurate. Billy Corgan has been the CEO of NWA since 2017 and Jason Brown has been the CEO of Impact Wrestling since 2016, while Khan launched AEW in 2019. This also does not account for several Lucha Libre and Japanese promotions like AAA, which has been under the direction of Marisela Peña since 2006.

Battle of the Khans will intensify with the retirement of Vince McMahon

Where there was already tension and competition between Tony Khan and Nick Khan — not related — a high-ranking executive in the WWE for the last few years, that tension is bound to rise quickly. Nick Khan is officially becoming co-CEO of the WWE alongside Stephanie McMahon, meaning that the unrelated Khans will be chief executives for the two biggest wrestling companies in North America.

In 2021, Tony Khan publicly called out Nick for the rumored meetings between WWE and NJPW, saying that if it were not for him, NJPW would not be interested in coming to North America.

In a video shot for and released on the official AEW Twitter Account, TK would let his Nick know how he feels, “In fact, I think there is only space for one Khan in the wrestling business, Nick, and it’s me, it’s Tony Khan. It’s not some Khan man from Connecticut.”
