Jim Harbaugh has big goals for Michigan football in 2022 but are the Wolverines capable of competing at the high level aimed for by their coach?

Just as it looked like Jim Harbaugh’s job security at Michigan was at a low, the head coach turned around and produced a season to get Wolverine fans excited about the direction of the program again.

In 2021, UM stormed through the Big Ten, took down rival Ohio State and punched a ticket to the College Football Playoff.

And they’re looking for even more in 2022.

Jim Harbaugh sets lofty expectations for Michigan football

At Big Ten media days on Tuesday, Harbaugh set four goals for the coming season, per Brett McMurphy.

  1. Beat Ohio State
  2. Beat Michigan State
  3. Win the Big Ten
  4. Win the national championship

The Wolverines went 2-of-4 on those in 2021. They beat Ohio State but lost to Michigan State. They won the Big Ten but not the title.

It was a magical run. There’s just more work to be done.

Either Cadde McNamara or J.J. McCarthy will be at the helm in 2022. One of those quarterbacks will be backed by a strong offensive line and the return of injured receiver Ronnie Bell.

The defense has a new coordinator and will have to replace huge impact players like David Ojabo and Aiden Hutchinson.

So just how attainable are those goals this time around?
