Breaking down our PGA Tour expert picks for this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic with best bets for Top 10, Top 20, winner prediction and more.

As we head to the Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club this week, we have only two PGA Tour events remaining until the FedExCup Playoffs get underway. That means it’s times for guys to make their moves in the standings to retain their status and get closer to a big payday (and potentially make their way into the TOUR Championship.

We’re going to get after a fascinating field at the Rocket Mortgage Classic this week and we need to bounce back. The only thing going for our PGA Tour expert picks at the 3M Open was our sleeper, Callum Tarren, coming up with a T7 and Adam Long flirting with the Top 10 we had him for. Everything else truly wasn’t all that close.

But it’s going to be better. We’re locked in with our PGA Tour expert picks and Rocket Mortgage Classic best bets this week. So let’s dive into the card for this week and recapture our winning ways.

PGA Tour expert picks for Rocket Mortgage Classic: Winner, Top 10, One and Done

Top 10 pick for the Rocket Mortgage Classic: Mark Hubbard (+500 consensus odds)

While I love longer hitters at Detroit Golf Club this week, Mark Hubbard is one of the few outliers because I can’t ignore how well he’s played and a bit of course history in the tournament’s young history. His last three starts have resulted in T4, T3 and T13 while gaining 1.05 strokes per round on approach and 0.88 strokes putting over his last 20 rounds. He’s trending at the end of the season and his ball-striking and putter indicate he can go low to contend at the Rocket Mortgage where he finished T12 in 2020.

Pick to Win the Rocket Mortgage Classic: Chris Kirk (+4000)

Looking at the numbers, Chris Kirk checks every box you want for this tournament and an outright pick. While his last couple of starts haven’t been as good as his overall form this year, I expect him to return to that at this course where he’s finished T21 and T12 in two starts. His ball-striking and solid off-the-tee game should play well. But more importantly, Kirk is the best in this field this season in proximity on approaches from 50-125 yards this season and is also on Bent/Poa annua greens, which he has historically been a much better putter on. I love this number for a player who is frankly due for a win in 2022.

One and Done Pick for the Rocket Mortgage Classic: Chris Kirk

It was honestly a surprise that I hadn’t burned Kirk yet for a One and Done pick but I love that journey for us like we’re Alexis Rose. Even if he doesn’t cash the outright ticket (even if I love that play), his history at Detroit Golf Club and overall form this season suggest that he’s going to finish well and cash a nice OAD payout for us.

Rocket Mortgage Classic picks and best bets

Taylor Pendrith to finish Top 20 (+250 consensus odds)

The Canadian took a break due to an injury after a Top 20 finish at THE PLAYERS and has recently returned and shown great form with a T11 and T13 finish in two starts. Extremely long off the tee, I like for Pendrith to take advantage of that at this course where driving accuracy won’t be a premium and take advantage of what has been a hot putter as of late to cash a Top 20 for us at solid odds.

Kevin Kisner to finish Top 20 (+170 consensus odds)

Once again shirking the long-hitter theory for this course where rough isn’t penal, Kevin Kisner has long been the type of guy who is always going to play the courses he likes and suit him well and might fall off at other events. This might be one of the good ones as he has a T8 and T3 in the past two years at the Rocket Mortgage. With that plus the fact that he’s recently displayed good form, I like him to cash a smooth Top 20 at decent odds given his history and play as of late.

Cameron Young to finish Top 10 (+250 consensus odds)

This might sound odd given how little fanfare there is about Detroit Golf Club, but I think we could see a similar recipe for success from Young that we did at The Open. He powers the ball off the tee with impressive accuracy and then thrives with short wedges and a solid putter. That’s the recipe to score at the Rocket Mortgage and he has been in contention so often in his rookie season that it’s hard not to think he’ll do it again this week.

Longshot pick to win Rocket Mortgage Classic: Callum Tarren (+12500)

Tarren was my longshot pick last week and I have zero problem going back to the well if they are going to give him worse odds than at the 3M Open despite the fact that he came through with a strong T7 showing to further his great form as of late.

With that finish, he now has a Top 10 in two of his last four starts in addition to four Top 31 or better finishes in his last six starts. The Englishman belts it off of the tee but is finding his overall form lately, gaining 0.97 strokes on approach per round over his last 20 and gaining with the putter as well. He might not win, but the odds on a Top 20 (+400 consensus) are something to definitely consider.
