Michigan QB Cade McNamara feeds Ohio State rivalry with latest comment

Michigan finally knocked off Ohio State last November, but quarterback Cade McNamara added a new chapter to the rivalry with his latest comments.

There is no doubt that the Michigan Wolverines and Cade McNamara are feeling themselves after beating the Ohio State Buckeyes last November. Given the long losing streak they endured, they have every right to breathe a sigh of relief or, as Rich Eisen would say, pound their chest a little, especially as it led to a Big Ten championship and berth in the College Football Playoff.

However, it looks like McNamara is enjoying the victory a bit too much and may have given the rivalry between the two schools a new chapter. At Big Ten Media Day, McNamara expressed his surprise at how large the deficit was from November’s 42-27 victory in Ann Arbor.

"“I thought the gap was pretty big during that game.”"

True, it was not an out-of-bounds comment, but to the scarlet and gray folks of Columbus, they saw it differently.

Here’s the deal. It’s not shock-jock material, and we don’t know what to say if it’s interpreted like that. But McNamara has a point. It was a large deficit, and considering how the Buckeyes have often blown out the Wolverines during their long losing streak that ended last November, maybe one time in the other direction was justified?

Still, McNamara didn’t exactly drop jaws in their win. He went 13/19 for 159 yards and an interception. It was primarily the running game and defense that contributed to Michigan rattling CJ Stroud and his friends. Hassan Haskins was the show’s real star with his 169 yards and five touchdowns.

Nonetheless, this was mostly a tame yet robust comment by Cade McNamara that will still spark fuel to the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry. They will meet again in Columbus this year, where the Wolverines have not won since Drew Henson and David Terrell stole the show back in 2001. If the Wolverines can pull that out, there will be more red faces in Columbus than jerseys.
