MLB rumors: 5 monstrous trade packages for Shohei Ohtani the Angels can’t refuse
By Tim Boyle
Shohei Ohtani’s name is the subject of plenty of MLB rumors, and these five monster trade packages could pull him away from the Los Angeles Angels.
MLB rumors are hotter than ever with the trade deadline now days away. Many teams are listening to realistic offers, while some general managers are getting phone calls that might not feel so realistic.
One name speculated about in recent days is Shohei Ohtani. The two-way Los Angeles Angels star, who is doing things that haven’t been done since Babe Ruth, is someone teams have already called the club about — if, for nothing else, to see where their mindset is at.
With Mike Trout’s health in question and the Angels far away from fielding a serious team, it might make sense for the Angels to move on from him. What kind of monstrous trade packages could other MLB teams offer?
1) MLB rumors: A monster San Diego Padres trade package for Shohei Ohtani
It’s beginning to seem like the San Diego Padres will either land Ohtani or Juan Soto. The biggest MLB rumors have been pointing toward them having an openness to buy big and spend even bigger. As one of the MLB teams without a World Series title, they need to go after it. Their pitching staff has what it takes to go far. They would be even better with Ohtani as the DH and a starter in their rotation.
What would the Padres have to give up to acquire Ohtani?
The full trade would have CJ Abrams, MacKenzie Gore, Robert Hassell III, Luis Campusano, Reiss Knehr, and Joshua Mears all going to the Angels for Ohtani. Abrams and Gore have graduated from prospect status already but remain promising young players. Both would immediately land on the Angels roster.
Hassell (1), Campusano (2), Knehr (6), and Mears (8) would revamp the farm system in Anaheim and provide them with something they haven’t had in a long time: depth. A major criticism for the Angels over this year has been how top-heavy they are. This case remains the same with Ohtani, Trout, and not much else.
Could this be the package the Angels ultimately accept for Ohtani?
