MLB rumors: 5 monstrous trade packages for Shohei Ohtani the Angels can’t refuse

5) MLB rumors: A monster New York Yankees trade package for Shohei Ohtani
Ohtani in the Big Apple makes a lot of sense. Even though they just dropped two games to the Mets this week, the New York Yankees remain one of MLB’s most powerful teams in every which way possible. Checking in on Ohtani’s availability is a must for them.
How much would the Yankees need to give up to get him?
The theme stays the same. The Yankees need to feel pain. The full trade would send Anthony Volpe, Jasson Dominguez, Austin Wells, Hayden Wesneski, Luis Gil, Estevan Florial, and Jhony Brito to the Angels all for Ohtani.
The Yankees can try to avoid trading Volpe (1) but as the seventh-best prospect compared to fellow shortstop Oswald Peraza who ranks in at number 37, the Angels could pivot elsewhere for a better prospect. Let’s not forget that regardless of how Ohtani’s career goes, he can be an excellent pitcher or hitter even if he ends up focusing on one at some point.
Also leaving the Yankees system is Dominguez (3), Wells (4), Weneski (7), Gil (9), Florial (27), and Brito (30). It’s a prospect-heavy trade with a variety of guys ready for the big leagues very soon.
The Yankees are a team that prides itself on having a good farm system. More so, they care about winning. If there is a big trade out there for them to make, their minor league system is going to feel it.
