Dodgers rumors: Marlins starter Pablo López a potential target
The Los Angeles Dodgers have a great starting rotation … and they could look to make it even better with Miami Marlins starting pitcher Pablo López
The Los Angeles Dodgers have a gaggle of great starting pitchers, even with their ace Walker Buehler on the 60-day IL. Clayton Kershaw was the All-Star Game starting pitcher for the NL. Tyler Anderson was an All-Star. Tony Gonsolin was an All-Star. Julio Urías won 20 games last year, came in 7th in NL Cy Young Award voting, and has a 2.71 ERA (that’s 52 percent better than league average).
But, according to Jack Harris of The Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are looking at strengthening their rotation even more with Miami Marlins starting pitcher Pablo López.
The Dodgers are interested in Marlins SP Pablo López
Pablo López has had a very good season for the Miami Marlins this year and they could be trading him to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Entering August, López leads the majors in starts with 21. He has a 3.41 ERA, a 119 ERA+, and a 3.60 FIP. He’s also averaging 2.7 walks and a strikeout per inning.
For the Dodgers, it would be a huge trade if they get him because he is under team control for this season and for the next two years. He had a 126 ERA+ and 136 ERA+ in each of the last two seasons (31 starts combined) so he has a track record of pitching well too.
Harris also mentions that veteran reliever Anthony Bass (who’s in Miami’s bullpen) could be a potential target as well so the Dodgers seem to want to shore up their pitching staff, in general. That’s always a good idea because, as they say, “you can never have too much pitching.”
As Harris notes, though, a potential deal would depend on whether or not the club thinks that they can get Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto.
With López, the Dodgers would have one of the best rotations in recent memory and it would bolster themselves in the playoffs. López might not even make their postseason rotation but he would be a great option to have in the bullpen.
