Cardinals predictions: What rotation will look like after trade deadline
Who are the top-of-the-rotation starters for the Cardinals?
2. Miles Mikolas
Mikolas has been steady in his role as the second man up in the rotation, even coming an out away from a no-hitter earlier this season.
In his last start, Mikolas pitched seven innings, giving up six hits, one walk, two runs and four strikeouts. On the season, he’s 8-8 in 21 games starts and 132.1 innings pitched. He struck out 100 batters so far this season.
Mikolas has been everything the Cardinals have needed from him and more as an innings eating strike thrower.
1. Adam Wainwright
At 41, Wainwright still has what it takes to lead this rotation.
For the season, Wainwright is 8-8 over21 games started and 130.1 innings. He has 103 strikeouts on the season inducing 45.4-percent ground ball outs.
On Tuesday, Wainwright pitched in his second-consecutive start with no runs given up. Pitching again to Yadier Molina, Wainwright threw seven innings and struck out four batters while inducing nine swings and misses on the night.
Mikolas and Wainwright have been the two steady pieces in the Cardinals rotation and they will have to continue to do so down the stretch.
