Braves finally get some good news about Mike Soroka

Mike Soroka is getting closer to returning to the Atlanta Braves after this latest, positive update.

Mike Soroka has not pitched for the Atlanta Braves since the 2020 truncated season after he tore his Achilles tendon when fielding a ball during a game against the New York Mets. He suffered another setback last season re-tearing his Achilles, which put him on the shelf yet again. Just last month, his comeback was once again delayed. But, it appears that a return could be happening sooner rather than later.

Braves manager Brian Snitker revealed on Aug. 4 that Soroka will be pitching in simulated games “soon,” but there is no date for a rehab assignment for him.

Soroka has not had much luck in his recovery from the injury he suffered back in 2020. Just last year, when he was nearing a return, Soroka felt a pop in his right leg when walking to the clubhouse. It was then revealed that he re-tore his right Achilles tendon, effectively ending any chance he had of returning that year.

Then, this past July, Soroka was hit in the knee by a comebacker, which delayed his scheduled rehab start.

Soroka’s last full season was in 2019, where he recorded a 2.68 ERA, a 1.111 WHIP, a 13-4 record, 142 strikeouts, and 41 walks over 174.2 innings (29 starts). That year, he played in the All-Star Game and finished second in NL Rookie of the Year voting.

It is unknown when exactly Soroka will begin his rehab assignment, but for Braves fans wondering what is going on with him, he will be throwing simulated games shortly.
