Braves new trade addition arrives just in time for crucial Mets series

The Braves traded to add relief pitcher Raisel Iglesias and he’s arriving at the perfect time to help during a critical series with the Mets.

Just a couple of days ago, Raisel Iglesias was living in Los Angeles and pitching for a disappointing Angels team that was out of the running for pretty much anything.

Now he’s come all the way across the country to get thrown into one of the most meaningful series of the season for the Braves.

The timing of his arrival could hardly be better for Atlanta.

Raisel Iglesias could play a big part in the Braves-Mets series

The Braves announced that Iglesias reported to the team on Thursday, just as they opened a five-game series in New York against the Mets.

Atlanta is 3.5 games behind their NL East rivals so this series could have a huge impact on the season going both ways.

Iglesias spent the last two years with the Angels after six seasons with the Reds. Last year he had 34 saves while maintaining an ERA of 2.57.

This year has not gone quite as well for him. He has a 4.04 ERA with 16 saves.

Manager Brian Snitker told reporters Kenley Jansen would remain the team’s closer but Iglesias will serve as a secondary closer and reliever. His role could expand beyond that next year with Jansen signed to a one-year deal.

For now, Iglesias can hold down the fort in the bullpen while Atlanta waits for Kirby Yates to return from injury. The Brave should have an even more formidable bullpen once that happens.

First, they need to see about cutting into the Mets lead at the top of the division. We’ll have to see if Iglesias can contribute to that goal as the series progresses.
