NBA rumors: This 3-team Donovan Mitchell trade would break the Association
By Mark Powell
Donovan Mitchell was made available by the Utah Jazz a month ago. With little movement, every trade rumor is worth reporting.
Forget a trade rumor — what about a three-team trade rumor?
The Knicks, Jazz and Lakers have provided us with that juicy gossip.
Per Michael Scotto of Hoops Hype, the following trade involving the likes of Russell Westbrook, Donovan Mitchell and Patrick Beverley was discussed. It’s unknown at this time if there’s any traction:
This trade offer is extremely vague, as the picks and players are very much interchangeable, but stick with us.
NBA rumors: Would this Jazz, Lakers, and Knicks trade offer work?
The Lakers get rid of Westbrook, and mix up the roster in what could be one of LeBron James’ final seasons. The Knicks get Mitchell, the star they’ve been seeking all along. And the Jazz, surely, get a litany of draft picks greater than what they received for Rudy Gobert. Everyone wins.
For Utah, taking on Russell Westbrook along with dealing Mitchell increases their return, as the Lakers have had trouble finding a potential suitor for Brodie.
The only thing holding up such a deal would be (likely) Utah, given how much they want in return for Mitchell alone. Why complicate matters?
The Lakers also may have a bone to pick. Los Angeles doesn’t have much draft capital left, and they want to leave themselves in a decent position once LeBron does retire. Dealing future firsts down the line will not help them rebuild.
The Knicks win the trade, hands down. They don’t gut their roster for Mitchell, thus allowing them to compete for a high playoff spot out West.
