Trevon Diggs deletes Twitter account after viral lowlights from Cowboys camp

Trevon Diggs getting burned at Cowboys training camp was all over Twitter on Friday, which then led to the cornerback deleting his account. 

Few players in the NFL sparked as much debate among fans and analysts as Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs in the 2021 season. While he led the league in interceptions a year ago, his overall coverage left a lot to be desired as he was beaten relatively frequently for big plays.

So when videos from Cowboys training camp started circulating around social media on Friday that showed Diggs getting torched in coverage on a number of occasions, disgruntled fans and his detractors were quick to troll him (or be far more unkind and, frankly, unacceptable about it).

And to be fair, there was some warranted criticism. Losing a 1-on-1 to CeeDee Lamb is one thing — losing to former UDFA Simi Fehoko is another.

However, the hate was entirely too much for anyone to be expected to deal with. Thus, Diggs deleted his Twitter account entirely.

It’d be easy to make fun of the Dallas corner for being soft and for getting roasted so bad on and off the field that he had to leave social media. But some of the comments, which included even death threats, were crossing the line and no person — athlete or otherwise — should be expected to deal with that type of behavior.

As for Diggs, the optimistic view would be that, hopefully, the hate will fuel him to be better in the 2022 season, not just at forcing turnovers, but at making consistent plays in coverage. And maybe not being on social media will allow him to get away from distractions and things of the like to focus on his craft and achieve that goal.
