Alabama football released their team photo for the 2022 season, and edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. looks like he is coming for blood.
There is no doubt that it is hot in Tuscaloosa, and the Alabama Crimson Tide are hot over losing the national title, specifically Will Anderson Jr. In the team photo, by zooming in closer, you see a possessed Anderson, so much so that it looks as if he is the Terminator looking for revenge.
He might as well be; Anderson is one of the fiercest college football defenders in the past two decades, and the stats back it up, including last year, where his presence on the defense allowed the Crimson Tide to make it to Indianapolis in what head coach Nick Saban called “a rebuilding year.”
Naturally, the internet was buzzing about Anderson’s face compared to his teammates, including Bryce Young, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner.
Alabama football: Will Anderson Jr. explains menacing expression in the team photo
Like anything that goes viral on social media, there is an explanation for it, and Will Anderson Jr. was thoughtful enough to provide one as to why he appeared like that, per Charlie Potter of BamaOnLine.
"“I’m not really a big smiling guy in team photos and stuff like that. They get me to smile sometimes, but in that moment, it was hot outside and I was just ready to go.”"
Ready to go, huh? Go sack quarterbacks and win a national championship? Sounds good to the folks of Tuscaloosa. Because, if memory serves, Anderson’s most recent season should give teams a reason to be wary of the wrath of one of college football’s most dangerous players.
Last year, Anderson racked up 17.5 sacks and 34.5 tackles for loss, good enough to win the Bronko Nagurski trophy. Though the Heisman would be an outstanding award to add to his legacy, Anderson is likely focused on winning another national championship, which may give him a reason to smile.
