NFL Legend Frank Gore has been charged with simple assault for alleged involvement in a domestic violence incident.

Former San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore was charged early Wednesday morning for simple assault in an alleged domestic violence incident.

TMZ Sports reported that last month, they received word from the Atlanta Police Department that officers were called to the Tropicana Atlantic City hotel in New Jersey regarding a domestic violence dispute.

Upon arrival, officers say an unidentified 28-year-old woman spoke with them with “no injuries,” and a complaint was not filed. However, following an investigation, Gore was charged with assault for assault “related to the incident.”

Upon his retirement in 2019, Gore left the NFL with the third-highest rushing total of all time at 16,000 yards, second to only Walter Payton and Emmitt Smith. Gore has also scored 81 touchdowns.

At the University of Miami, Gore was integral to the 2001 Miami Hurricanes National Championship winning team. Drafted back in 2005 in the third round by the 49ers out of Miami, Gore rushed for over 1,000 yards eight times in his ten seasons with San Francisco, including a career-high 1,695 yards in 2006.

Between 2011 and 2013, Gore helped the 49ers win two division titles and reach three consecutive conference championship games. In 2012, he and the 49ers defeated the Atlanta Falcons in the NFC Championship game and earned a berth in Super Bowl XLVII, a 34-31 loss to Ray Lewis and the Baltimore Ravens.

Since leaving the Bay Area, Gore has played for the Colts, Dolphins, Bills, and most recently, the New York Jets. Gore’s last season in the NFL saw him run for 653 yards and two touchdowns as the Jets finished 2-14. He would sign a one-day contract with San Francisco in June, retiring as a Niner. Since retiring, Gore has taken up boxing.

TMZ says Gore is scheduled to appear in court sometime in October for a hearing on this incident.
