Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto is about to play in his first Field of Dreams game. In honor, he shared a moving story on Twitter.

Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto will play in his first Field of Dreams game on Thursday.

In honor of that forthcoming moment, he shared a moving story on Twitter about what the movie and the experience mean to him.

Votto recalls being “raised” on the movie. He often played catch with his father as a young kid and described it as “the most important thing [they] did together.”

The 38-year-old then went on to write an emotional sentiment, which stated, “In Field of Dreams, the movie ends with the main character, Ray, and the ghost of his father having ‘a catch.’ My father passed away 14+ years ago. So it is impossible for me not to feel an emotional connection to the moment when Ray asks his father for a catch. One more moment together.”

Votto will be mic’d up during the game, so viewers may hear some more sentimentality from him.

Reds: Joey Votto relates Field of Dreams to his late father in touching story

Votto will have a sentimental experience playing the game, and he will make it even more special by sharing his voice throughout with the viewers.

He’ll be mic’d up alongside Chicago Cubs outfielder Ian Happ, which will be the first time any players have been mic’d up during a Field of Dreams game.

The film itself is one that has touched countless individuals over the years for a number of reasons, but many for the same reasons that Votto mentioned in his words on social media as the moments between the father and son are special to so many.

Even without this extremely personal element, it would’ve been an unforgettable night for Votto and the Reds. But with that added to it, it’s going to be a truly one-of-a-kind experience.
