Braves: Ronald Acuña Jr. refuses to let Marlins turf war put him on IL

Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. has a turf war going with the Miami Marlins, aright.

Aaron Rodgers owns the Chicago Bears, Dansby Swanson owns the Washington Nationals and Ronald Acuña Jr. owns the Miami Marlins.

Although captain Donnie Baseball and the Fish do their damnedest to mess with Ronnie Beisbol on the reg, it is actually the playing surface itself at loanDepot Park that has hurt the Atlanta Braves star the most. Since blowing his knee out on the Miami warning track a little over a year ago, Acuña and the Braves have been super cautious when it comes to him playing on fake grass.

After taking the Fish deep on the first pitch in Game 2 of Saturday’s doubleheader, Acuña was later removed from the game for precautionary reasons over his knee.

Braves skipper Brian Snitker said Acuña is not going on IL and is not all that concerned about his star outfielder’s knee after playing two games on Saturday. More than nine innings a day on turf will do that to you…

After Sunday’s series finale vs. Miami, Atlanta comes back home to face the hated New York Mets.

Ronald Acuña Jr. will not lose the turf war vs. those middling Miami Marlins

After getting their clocks cleaned by the Mets in Queens last week, Atlanta has rattled off five wins in a row over non-playoff teams in the Boston Red Sox and now Miami. Although Atlanta could absolutely, and unequivocally, overlook the Fish on getaway day, today would be a good day for the Day Braves to pretend to be the Night Braves and to finally be champions of the sun’s day.

For the first time all season, Acuña is playing … well … like Acuña. He seems to have a renewed sense of confidence at the plate. While it does not always look pretty in right field, he is making more plays than not with his legs, and definitely with his rocket right arm. Frankly, he may still be another year away from getting back to being a top-10 player in baseball, but he is trending up.

Ultimately, it does not really matter if Acuña plays on Sunday. He may serve as the DH to give his legs a bit of extra rest. What is important though is he needs to be ready to rock when the front-running Mets come to town. They are going to get booed relentlessly with Truist Park getting all Battery-throwing mad. Hook the Fish line and sinker and let’s take care of business on Monday.

Miami’s decision to go to turf a few years back was yet another bad move made by the franchise.
