The New York Yankees have been struggling to play to their potential lately, and their latest injury may pose more trouble for them.

The New York Yankees have been struggling to play to their potential lately, as shown by a series loss against their biggest rival, the Boston Red Sox. DJ LeMahieu was announced injured on Sunday night, which may pose even more trouble for New York.

The Yankees have been one of the best teams in the league all season. They currently sit comfortably at the top of the AL East standings, but that could change as they navigate lineup changes.

LeMahieu hasn’t been announced to the injured list, but it’s likely he will be after more testing is done in New York. Losing him will be a big adjustment. He’s one of the best hitters on the Yankees.

DJ LeMahieu is one of the best hitters on the Yankees

LeMahieu is the third-best hitter in New York this season, behind Aaron Judge and Matt Carpenter. He’s currently hitting .279/.381/.417 for an OPS of .798. The Yankees may be the best team in the AL East, but their lineup has problems that losing one of their key contributors could make worse.

Among all of MLB, they have the third-best on-base percentage (.328), slugging percentage (.438) and second-best OPS (.766). There’s a major drop-off in batting average, however. The Yankees have the 14th-worst batting average (.242).

The roster will take quite a bit of shifting to compensate for LeMahieu’s absence. The best case scenario would be LeMahieu avoiding the injured list and healing quickly.
