Julie, Zach Ertz pay homage to NFL legend with newborn son’s name
Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz and his wife, USWNT soccer star Julie Ertz, paid homage to an NFL legend as they named their new son.
Former Philadelphia Eagles turned Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz is considered a legend, at least in the eyes of Philadelphia fans.
Ertz’s touchdown catch in Super Bowl LII led to a strip sack by Brandon Graham en route to a 41-33 victory over the New England Patriots.
Now, with the Cardinals, Ertz is invoking the name of another legend, in the form of his newborn son with his wife, Julie. The boy’s name?
Madden Matthew Ertz, the first name stemming from legendary NFL coach and broadcaster John Madden, who sadly passed away earlier this year at 85.
Zach Ertz invoked the name of John Madden by giving his newborn son the name of the NFL icon.
It’s truly a remarkable way for Zach Ertz to honor John Madden. After all, Madden does have the history of being the coach during the tenure of Hall of Fame tight end Dave Casper, who Ertz shares many similarities with in terms of their impact on the game.
Moreover, it’s another fitting tribute to Madden, who, during his time with the NFL as both a coach and broadcaster, showed the game from several different angles while also recognizing some of the game’s greatest players and calling some of the biggest games in the history of the sport. Moreover, Madden played a key role in coaching some of the best players who came from smaller schools, including Art Shell and Gene Upshaw.
Zach Ertz may be a really good tight end and may have just named his son after Madden to show his appreciation, but the Arizona Cardinals tight end is more than that. He’s just a great guy, and by doing this, he shows his heart for the game, and appreciation for those who paved the way for guys like him to continue doing what they do.
