Boston Red Sox legend Bill Lee suffered a scary medical emergency on national TV during the Savannah Bananas game. Lee was reportedly warming up in the bullpen and appeared to have collapsed.

According to team president Jared Orton, “He was able to leave the stadium with medical attention and was taken to a local hospital” (via ESPN).

Lee’s condition and cause of the incident are still unknown, but he fortunately got medical help right away.

His return to baseball was exciting for many considering his lengthy MLB career that lasted mostly through the 1970s.

Bill Lee had a successful MLB career with the Boston Red Sox

Lee made his MLB debut back in 1969 and played most of his career with the Red Sox. He retired after the 1982 season. He was a reliable pitcher that produced a career average ERA of 3.62, batting average against of .352 and WHIP of 1.62.

In 1973, he earned a Boston Red Sox Pitcher of the Year award. He was one-of-a-kind with a humorous personality. According to MLB.com, Lee was upset when his teammate and friend got released from the Montreal Expos in 1982.

In response, “Lee stormed out of the clubhouse and headed to a nearby bar — in uniform, no less — to have a few beers while Montreal took on the Dodgers. He kept tabs on the game though, so when he saw that the team might run short on pitchers and could use him, he hurried back to the stadium.”

Lee has certainly had a great run in MLB, and hopefully further updates on his health will be good.
