St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols has done it again, recording his 693rd career home run, this time against the Chicago Cubs.
There is arguably no MLB player having a better August than St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols. This past Saturday, Pujols hit career home runs 691 and 692 while facing the Arizona Diamondbacks. It should not shock you to hear that he is getting even closer to reaching 700 home runs.
On Monday night against the Chicago Cubs, Pujols sent a pitch from Drew Smyly to deep left center field to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead. That was now career homer No. 693, and it came on a pitch that was at the letters of his jersey.
693!

Pujols has been making history recently, as this past Saturday, he passed Stan Musial for the second-most total bases in MLB history. But with this latest home run, he has now hit a home run off 449 different pitchers. That now ties Barry Bonds for the most-ever.

That ties Barry Bonds for the most different pitchers homered off all-time
This home run was all the Cardinals needed, as they picked up the 1-0 victory. Credit can also be given to pitcher and trade deadline acquisition Jordan Montgomery, who threw a complete game, where he would allow just one hit and strike out seven batters.
Now, with this latest game in the books, Pujols is slugging an absurd 1.300 in his last ten games, including the Monday night game, per High Heat Stats.
At the rate he is going, Pujols may very well reach 700 career home runs by the end of the week. If not then, certainly by the end of the month.
