Manchester United pulled out a stunning victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford and fans around the world couldn’t help but pile on the losers.
Coming into Monday’s Premier League fixture between Manchester United and Liverpool at Old Trafford, it seemed as if the outcome was all but predetermined. United had dropped their first two matches of the season, even against perceived inferior competition, and had looked awful in doing so.
Meanwhile, Liverpool came into the match having not come away from a Premier League match with points since December 2021. Thus, there seemed to be no way the visiting side wasn’t going to, at worst, come away with a draw if not an emphatic win.
But after Jadon Sancho worked beautifully in the box early in the first half to find the back of the net and then Marcus Rashford added on right out of halftime, Manchester United were able to pull off the stunner and walk away with three points from a 2-1 victory.

But, but.. just one week ago, Jamie Carragher said Lisandro Martinez will NOT succeed in the Premier League, only for Martinez to put up a MOTM performance against his Liverpool at Old Trafford, with Carragher watching as Man Utd win 2-1 🤡 pic.twitter.com/DRqqAzEtNt

How do you lose 4-0 to Brentford and then beat Liverpool who haven’t lost a Premier League game this calendar year.

The worst ever United PL side ahead of the Liverpool side people were claiming were better than the Treble winners a couple of months ago. How strange 😂

Remarkable to see Liverpool so comprehensively outfought and out-thought tonight by a team they were so far ahead of last season. Klopp can keep saying there's no issue with his midfield, but that was so clearly where the game was lost, for me.

Not only does the loss look bad for The Reds, but it actually gives them their own inauspicious start to the Premier League season at 0-2-1 with just two points in the table, which actually puts Manchester United ahead of them now.
Even still, it’s a long season and we’re only three matches in. Things could change for both clubs but, based on the early returns, it was hard not to look at this situation and result and feel like it could be a turning of the tides for The Red Devils and potentially a cause for concern with The Reds.
