The Kansas City Chiefs have a loaded roster, but they’ll be cutting it down to 53 players soon, and that means some surprise names.

Come Aug. 30, the entire NFL will be cutting down to a 53-man roster.

For the Kansas City Chiefs, there are many difficult decisions to be made. While most of the players who get released are youngsters without a household name, some will be notable. And of the notables, there’s a few who could surprise nationally.

Here are 3 potential surprise cuts from the Chiefs

3. Chad Henne, QB

Henne isn’t likely to be cut — hence a surprise — but he’s got to be concerned about his position. He’s only played one series through two preseason games, while third-stringer and second-year man Shane Buechele has gotten the bulk of Kansas City’s snaps.

While Henne is the favorite to back up Patrick Mahomes come Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals, it’s also possible the Chiefs decide to move on. if they do, they would be eating his $2million salary, which could cause general manager Brett Veach to try and put Buechele on the practice squad if he can sneak him through.

Regardless, while Henne is in good position, he can’t be considered a sure bet as in years past.
