3 veterans who won’t make the Packers Week 1 roster
By Scott Rogust
2. Danny Etling, QB
Much like the running back position, Green Bay’s quarterback situation is set. Aaron Rodgers received a three-year, $150.3 million contract extension this offseason and looks to make it three NFL MVP awards won in a row. Then there is Jordan Love, who the team traded up in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft to select.
With those two spots not changing, there is not much need to carry three quarterbacks on the roster. The third signal-caller is none other than Danny Etling.
Earlier this year, the Packers signed Etling to a futures contract, and ultimately became the third quarterback on the depth chart after the team released Kurt Benkert.
In the preseason, Etling showed what he can do with his arm, and his legs, on the football field. His most notable play arrived in Green Bay’s game against the Saints, where he ran for a 51-yard touchdown that got Rodgers excited.
While Etling has impressed this summer, it is likely he gets cut before Week 1. However, do not be shocked if he does end up on the team via the practice squad.
