It’s no secret that New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom is one of the bests in the game. However, he may be even better historically than he seems.

New York Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom has been on a roll this season. It’s no secret that he’s one of the bests in the game, but from a historic perspective, he’s even better than most realize. According to Mathew Brownstein of the New York Times, deGrom is among only three pitchers since 1920 to post a 1.95 ERA over 95 starts.

The other three pitchers to achieve this are Sandy Koufax, Greg Maddux and Clayton Kershaw. The veteran Mets pitcher has pitched for nine seasons and has shown no signs of slowing down.

Mets pitcher Jacob deGrom is still on a roll after nine seasons

deGrom made his season debut in early August after an injury. He wasted no time coming in and has produced an ERA of 2.15, batting average against of .139 and WHIP of 0.55. In 29.1 innings pitched, he’s struck out 46. This isn’t unusual for him, but considering he hadn’t played since early July of 2021, it’s impressive.

He’s been one of the best pitchers in New York this season, even though he’s only pitched five games. The Mets also have one of the best rotations in the league. Among all teams, they have the sixth-best ERA (3.56), ninth-best opponent batting average (.236) and fifth-best WHIP (1.19). deGrom will likely continue to help New York get even better.

He’s certainly one of the most valuable assets to the Mets.
