Nebraska football had hoped Scott Frost would bring the Huskers back to glory but a winning season has still been elusive in Lincoln.

It’s a proud tradition in Lincoln when it comes to Nebraska football. The Cornhuskers have claimed six national championships since 1970, winning titles in 1970, 1971, 1994, 1995 and 1997. But in the 25 years since they last got a ring, things have not necessarily been as fruitful.

To put it more plainly, since Bo Pelini’s departure from the program during the 2014 season, the Huskers have been trying to find their way.

The hope was that head coach Scott Frost, who came back home to the program he played for after his tenure at UCF, would be the savior of the team, but that hasn’t happened to this point.

So now, it’s worth remembering when the last time Nebraska actually had a winning season was and to see how close Frost has come in his tenure.

While fans who are used to the tradition of winning with the Huskers might feel like it’s been much longer, the Huskers actually had a winning season back in 2016 under Mike Riley. That team went 9-4 overall and finished second in the Big Ten West at 6-3 in the conference.

Unfortunately, the loss in the Music City Bowl to cap off that year has set the trend for the five years since.

Since taking over in 2018, it’s not been pretty for Scott Frost. The former quarterback for the Huskers has just a 15-29 record at the helm of the program and a meager 10-25 record in the Big Ten as well. Obviously given that it’s been since 2016 since the last one, he’s not had a winning season to his credit either, with his best year coming when Nebraska went 5-7 in the 2019 season. The team has won just three games in the two years since, however.
