3 Cubs free agents who won’t be back next season and why

2) The Cubs will let Wade Miley walk this winter and it’s understandable why
The way the Cubs were able to steal Wade Miley from the Cincinnati Reds off the waiver wire was quite brilliant. It looked like the start to what could have been an incredible offseason. Although they were very active with signings of Marcus Stroman and Seiya Suzuki that could pay off down the road, Miley turned into a forgotten addition.
We can blame the injury bug for this. Miley has made only four starts this season. The potential steal of the offseason has turned into a colossal loss. They essentially picked up a bill the Reds didn’t want to pay.
If Miley isn’t ready to retire after 12 MLB seasons, he could have a few teams come calling. The Cubs shouldn’t waste their time. In his absence, several others have stepped up and performed quite well.
Next year’s Cubs rotation should include Stroman and hopefully a healthy Kyle Hendricks. Justin Steele and Keegan Thompson should also be a part of it. The team would be wise to add another veteran into the mix as well. Hopefully, he makes more appearances than Miley.
To be taken a little more seriously, the Cubs don’t have much room for veteran projects like Miley. Let him prove his health elsewhere before walking off into the sunset.
