Chiefs greatest moments No. 1: Super Bowl LIV
50 years after their first title, the Chiefs hoisted the Lombardi Trophy for the second time in franchise history, defeating the San Francisco 49ers 31-20. It was one of the greatest comebacks in Super Bowl history and was the start of reimagining the Chiefs’ glory days which we are in the midst of now.
The entire 2020 playoff run from the Chiefs was highlighted by incredible comebacks led by the three-headed-monster that was Patrick Mahomes, Tyreek Hill, and Travis Kelce. For an entire postseason, there was nothing that the Chiefs couldn’t do. Beyond how special a championship is to a fanbase, what that 2020 team was able to do inspired all of Chiefs Kingdom, and provided a level of belief that hadn’t been present in decades.
Championship droughts provide perpetual storylines in sports, and the Chiefs’ half-century gap between titles was among the most prominent in the NFL at the time. Breaking that drought and emerging once again as a force to be reckoned with makes Super Bowl LIV arguably the most special moment in Kansas City Chiefs history. That point will stand, of course, until the next championship arrives.
