LeBron James wants to extend career to 2027 to play with Bronny and Bryce

LeBron James discussed potentially playing with not just his oldest son, Bronny, but also his youngest son, Bryce.

During the 2022 All Star break, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James said that before he ends his legendary career, he wants to team up with his oldest son, Bronny. The future Hall of Famer has since made an adjustment to his previous statement.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated’s Chris Ballard, James expressed interest in playing with Bronny and his youngest son, Bryce.

"When I ask about details, he waves away the query. “I like to throw things out in the airwaves, but I’m not one to [say] what’s going to happen in the next two to three years. I am a visionary, but I’m also a guy that lives in the moment.”Still, the wheels are already turning. The free-agency deals and trades swirling around us? “I’d definitely be looking at who got first-round picks in 2024, 2025, things of that nature; 2026, ’27. I pay attention to that type of stuff.”I do the math—2027?—and nod at Bryce. “Is there a chance you’d stick around for this guy, too?”LeBron smiles. “I feel like I could play for quite a while. So it’s all up to my body, but more importantly, my mind. If my mind can stay sharp and fresh and motivated, then the sky’s not even a limit for me. I can go beyond that. But we shall see.”"

LeBron would be in his 40’s if both Bronny, 17, and Bryce, 15, made it into the league. The way he is playing, it is hard not to see him playing that long.

Bronny is 17 years old and currently playing for Sierra Canyon High School in Los Angeles. Per 247Sports Composite, he is a four-star recruit and ranks 11th in the state of California and 45th in the entire nation in the 2023 class.

James is coming off of a 2021-22 season where he was sidelined with an ankle injury. The Lakers struggled to live up to the hype, and they missed the play-in tournament after finishing 11th in the Western Conference.

This offseason, James signed a two-year, $85.7 million contract extension with the Lakers. The deal carries a $50.4 million player option for the 2024-25 season.

We have a few years to see if James teaming up with his sons will come to fruition.
