Los Angeles Chargers look poised to add Super Bowl-winning RB

The Los Angeles Chargers are making quick action on the free agent market by setting up a meeting with a Super Bowl-winning running back.
The 53-man deadline came and went on Tuesday, and with it, a flurry of roster moves took place for all 32 teams scrambling to get their rosters ready for the 2022-23 NFL regular season. With it came some surprise cuts for each team who got rid of players that were on the bubble.
One of the most surprising transactions was the Miami Dolphins ridding themselves of Sony Michel, a veteran and Super Bowl-winning running back. Making the team ahead of Michel was Chase Edmonds, Raheem Mostert, Myles Gaskin, and Salvon Ahmed.
The Dolphins signed Michel this offseason, but they decided their backfield was just too deep to justify keeping the fifth-year running back.

UPDATE: After this article’s publication, Jeremy Fowler reported the Chargers intend to sign Sony Michel.
Sony Michel won’t be available for long, most likely. Michel is flying to Los Angeles to meet with the Chargers on Wednesday according to Ian Rapoport:

The Chargers RB1 is Austin Ekeler, who rushed for 911 yards in 16 games last season. Michel, with the Rams, rushed for 845 yards in 17 games.
After logging 6 and 7 touchdowns in his first two seasons in the league, Michel only scored one touchdown in 2020 and 4 last year with the Rams. He was used much more as a receiver last year, catching 21 passes from Matthew Stafford which nearly doubles his previous season-high for passes in a season.
Michel would be a solid RB2 behind Ekeler and would take some pressure off to help establish a run game for Justin Herbert to get things going, or be an option for screen passes to pick up some easy yards. The main attraction of the Chargers’ offense is certainly Herbert, but it’s on the backfield to let themselves be felt in order to open up options for Herbert and his receivers.
Michel won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots and last year with the Rams.
