3 potential playoff teams that could actually use Carmelo Anthony
By Ian Levy
1. Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers took the leap last season on the strength of their defense. But their offense was ultimately what kept them out of the postseason — from the All-Star Break on they scored just 113.4 points per 100 possessions, the 20th-best mark in the league over the same span. The season-long absence of Collin Sexton was a factor and despite the emergence of Darius Garland, it’s clear this team needs more shooting and shot-creation.
The frontcourt will be crowded with Evan Mobley taking plenty of minutes at the 4, as well as Kevin Love and Lauri Markkanen. Anthony is ill-equipped to defend wings at this point in his career but that could be mitigated a bit by the interior rim protection of Mobley and Allen. So finding the exact rotation openings for Anthony could be a challenge but he’d be a veteran presence on a young team and one whose shooting touch and mismatch busting isolation and post-up ability could give the Cavs another mechanism for creating good scoring opportunities.
