The combination of Caleb Williams and Lincoln Riley was an instant hit with USC football fans as QB made it look easy on the opening drive of the season.

It’s been a long and demoralizing road for USC football fans over the last few years. The Clay Helton era had some highs but the lows were the kind that take all the belief out of the program.

That’s why the hiring of Lincoln Riley was so important because a proven head coach makes a lot of difference.

And that’s why bringing over Caleb Williams through the transfer portal was just as critical because having a quarterback with talent and leadership is key.

It took just one drive for Riley and Williams to prove what kind of impact they’ll have on the Trojans.

Williams led USC down the field with ease, finding open receivers while managing the pocket like a pro.

His first career touchdown pass for the Trojans was a short hit to Biletnikoff Award winner Jordan Addison.

And it only got better for USC’s offense, which found the endzone on their first three drives of the game.

While Trojan fans had ample reason to buy in over the offense, the defense was a whole different story, one that dampened the optimism somewhat. Rice answered USC’s opening scoring drive with an eight-minute touchdown drive of their own and they added another touchdown later in the half. Another drive made it down into the red zone but resulted in a 92-yard interception return for a touchdown going the other way.

Early signs point to Williams and the offense having to carry the Trojans in 2022. On the plus side, the quarterback and his endless bunch of weapons look up to the task.
