Dylan Cease has been a superstar for the White Sox all season and he almost capped that off with a no-hitter against the Twins in a dominant performance.

The 2022 season had not gone the Chicago White Sox had expected. But one of their bright spots on the team has been starting pitcher Dylan Cease. It just so happens on Saturday, Sept. 3, he was close to making franchise history.

Cease carried a no-hitter deep into the ninth inning in the team’s game against the Minnesota Twins. The 26-year-old only had one more out to go to secure the team’s 21st no-hitter in history. But on a 1-1 pitch, Cease surrendered a single in right-center field to Luis Arraez to end the no-no.

Even with the no-no over, Cease did pick up the complete game shutout in the White Sox’s 13-0 win.

Those who were watching the White Sox-Twins game looking to see if Cease would get the no-hitter shared their reactions on Twitter.

One common theme among the tweets was users questioning the team’s decision to pitch to Arraez, as he led the American League in batting average. Even so, Cease still got his flowers from those who watched the game.

Cease is now the second pitcher this season to lose a no-hitter in the final out of the ninth inning, per ESPN Stats and Info. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Miles Mikolas lost it needing just one more strike when facing the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 14.

Overall, Cease struck out seven batters, walked two, and allowed the one hit to Arraez. With this game in the books, Cease now has a 2.13 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and 13-6 record to his credit through 27 starts this season.

No-hitter or not, Cease had himself one hell of a game.
