The Georgia Bulldogs made the statement of all statements, defeating the No. 11 Oregon Ducks 49-3.

The Georgia Bulldogs won the CFP National championship last season by conquering the demon that was the Alabama Crimson Tide. Eight months later, their title defense tour officially began. The No. 3 Bulldogs faced off against the No. 11 Oregon Ducks, led by Georgia’s former defensive coordinator Dan Lanning.

Despite the high ranking, Georgia blew out Oregon like they were an unranked school. At Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Bulldogs cruised to a 49-3 victory. The Bulldogs held a 28-3 lead entering halftime, and did not blow it like another Georgia sports team did.

Twitter trolls Oregon for blowout loss to Georgia

As is the case whenever a big school loses, Twitter shows no mercy in the form of tweets and memes. That is what Oregon is dealing with, as they lost big time to the defending champions.

This was the first official season opener for quarterback Stetson Bennett IV, who played the hero in last season’s CFP National Championship Game. Bennett was on fire against Oregon. Facing off against Oregon, Bennett missed just six of his 31 pass attempts, tallying 368 yards and two touchdowns.

Kenny McIntosh led the team in receiving, as he tallied 117 yards on nine receptions.

Ladd McConkey tallied a touchdown in the receiving game and the running game. In the first quarter, McConkey ran for nine yards for the touchdown to give Georgia an early 7-0 lead. Then, in Georgia’s final drive of the first half, McConkey caught a pass from a scrambling Bennett while standing alone in the end zone to take the 28-3 lead.

As for Oregon, quarterback Bo Nix did not have the greatest of debuts with the Ducks after transferring from Auburn. Nix completed 21-of-37 pass attempts for 173 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Georgia will look to build off this win into their next game against Samford on Sept. 10. Oregon, on the other hand, will look to put up a better showing against Eastern Washington next week.
