Skip Bayless was ALL CAPS excited about Dillon Gabriel’s Oklahoma football debut against UTEP while taking a shot at Lincoln Riley and USC.

It took no time at all for Skip Bayles and Oklahoma football fans just like him to go all-in on the Dillon Gabriel hype train.

There was little doubt that the transfer quarterback from UCF was really good. He’d been prolific with the Golden Knights before transferring to Norman.

He ran for a touchdown to open the scoring then tossed a six-yard pass to —- Willis to add to Oklahoma’s first-quarter advantage.

Bayless was in ALL CAPS ecstasy.

Skip Bayless couldn’t contain his Dillon Gabriel and Oklahoma excitement

“LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, MEET DILLON GABRIEL. WHO NEEDS STINKIN’ LINCOLN??? THE SOONERS ARE STILL THE SOONERS. EXCEPT NOW, WE’LL ACTUALLY HAVE A DEFENSE EQUAL TO OUR OFFENSE. ENJOY 50-48, USC,” Bayless tweeted.

Gabriel was 8-of-13 for 164 yards and three touchdowns total in the first half.

The Sooners made an excellent hire getting Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables to take over the program. They also got strong additions like Gabriel in the transfer portal. There are plentiful reasons to be excited about how the program will recover from losing Lincoln Riley to USC.

But Bayless may want to slow his roll screaming about the ex-coach and his new program until Oklahoma faces stiffer competition than UTEP, a team that ranks 119th in ESPN and had the 94th-ranked defense in 2021.

Riley is irrelevant to the Sooners now. Someday Sooner fans will realize they can be excited about their quarterback and their team without sounding like a bitter ex on Twitter.

Then again, college football hate burns long and hard.
